Well that was stupid

I switched my hosting companies on Wednesday, but stupid me cancelled the old account before setting up the new one. I figured it would take a little while for the old account to go offline, but it only took about 10 minutes. Crap.

That began the scramble to get the new hosting online. My DNS records didn't seem to be updating, and I was about 10 minutes from calling the new company and then I realized that I never updated the name server in the domain settings. I did that and the site, along with my email, came back online about an hour later.

I'm a moron.

I've been contemplating changing the appearance and funtionality of my site. I think it's about time to get going with that. Now that I've put it on the web, I guess I have to do it.

It's been a while (again)

I seriously don't know why I have this site. I hardly ever update it.

I did finally get my iPhone. I love it. It's like having a little electronic vial of crack with me at all times. I'm getting super dorky with it, too. I found apps that let me control my laptop, and I'd like to get into web development for it. At some point, I'd like to take a stab at making an iPhone compatible site for our grades portal at work.

What else has happened since my last update? Oh yeah--we bought a house. It's a nice little cape cod in Lancaster. Three bedrooms, 1.5 baths, semi-finished basement, and a big yard for spazz-pooch to run in. There isn't a fence at the moment, but I figure that I'll install one of those overhead run things for her. Check out the photos here.

It looks like we're going to have about a month of overlap between our current pad and the new place. That's going to be nice, because we do have a decent amount of painting and decorating to do. That, and I like the idea of having a month to move all of our stuff. Loading and loading a truck in a single day sucks. My plan is to make a bunch of runs and move the little stuff slowly, and then finally rent a truck to do the big things in one day.

I'm sure that there will be a BBQ this summer to celebrate. Stay tuned for more details.

Uh oh (oh oh oh)

I about pooped my pants when I saw this come across my news reader. I wonder if Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch are soon to follow.

After months of speculation and rumor, the Kids are coming back. A well-placed source tells PEOPLE exclusively that New Kids On The Block are indeed getting back together.

Tuesday is the day. I've been jonesing for an iPhone for a while now and now I have the money necessary to get one. I got a lot of money and gift certificates for Christmas, and I've been waiting for Macworld to see if there are any new iPhone models. Hopefully, there will be something good. Even if there isn't a new model, I won't be mad, but I will be agitated if the current model is discontinued and a new model costs more.

I thought that the Keynote was tomorrow, but alas, it isn't until Tuesday. I guess I'm driving to Deleware Tuesday night.

No Really...

I'm seriously addicted

Step 1 - I am powerless over my addiction

Posted in section Music on Dec 26, 2007 -
My name is Tom, and I'm addicted to Guitar Hero.

Wow--That feels good to get off of my chest. I can't believe I'm getting so into this stupid game. My sisters got this for me for Christmas and I haven't put it down all day.

The game itself is pretty cool, but the guitar itself needs a little creativity to it. It came with a bunch of stickers and I'm going to let Audra pimp it out for me.

This game is brilliant. You actually have to move the guitar in some parts of the game to activate special functions. There's a motion sensor in the headstock, and you have to move it quickly (at though shredding) to activate the specials. Let's not forget the whammy bar as well.

So far, I've unlocked Tom Morello and Slash. The game is getting pretty hard and I'm only the easy level.

Dave is sitting in my office working on a problem in the cafeteria. Basically, the Timbuktu service wasn't running on a remote server. Dave launched this rather dastardly series of apps to get the job done.

MacBook Pro->ARD->iMac->Parallels->Altiris->Caf Computer->Timbuktu

Wow. I am impressed. Here it is:

Interesting Couple of Days

Posted in section Random on Oct 16, 2007 -
Audra decided that we needed some beef stew on Sunday. Mmmmmmm. Beef stew. I love me some beef stew. We got all the veggies chopped and put them in the crock pot. Mmmmmm. Audra got some nice bread and we were ready to go. Mmmmmmm.

I was taking a bite of this oh so yummy bread dipped in stew (Mmmmm) and I heard a click. My first thought was that I lost a chunk of a tooth. It's happened before and it really doesn't surprise me anymore. I felt around (being careful not to swallow) and discovered that a tooth that I had just had crowned wasn't there. I figured that the crown snapped off the little nub. Wrong. The tooth cracked off right at the gumline. Crap.

Luckily, I had a root canal on that tooth about a year ago, so it doesn't hurt. I called the dentist and had to go in yesterday for an emergency appointment. Dr. Cliff gave me the plan.

Step one is to get the remainder of the tooth pulled. I'm going to get what they call a flipper. It's basically a denture plate with a single temp tooth on it. Step two is to get crown prep on the canine tooth next to the broken one. Step three is to have a 2 tooth bridge installed on the canine. I'll have a full mouth of teeth again, but there'll be two hanging onto the roots of one.

Phase 1 of this procedure is complete. I got the monster yanked out this morning. That very sucked. The doctor was cool, and he realized that while I appreciated his help, I still hate him. I asked about the injection he was going to give me and he was surprised that I knew some of the terminology. One thing that I have a lot of experience with is the dentist.

He kept asking me if we were still friends.

Dr. Teethenstein: Does that hurt?
Me: Yes
Dr. Teethenstein: Sorry--Are we still friends?

These last couple days have sucked. I've missed two days of work and I'm probably going to have to miss a little more tomorrow to go pick up my flipper. This thing better look good. I have to be in a wedding in two weeks.

The only saving grace of the last couple days is that Jay called me last night and invited me to go to Sunday's Eagles game with him. It's gonna be sweet. I'll need it after this week.

It's about freakin' time

via The Onion:

After more than 30 years spent hiding in the Los Angeles underground as wanted criminals, the members of the crack commando unit Alpha Team, commonly known as the A-Team, were cleared of all charges brought against them by the U.S. military, an army official announced Monday.

This just came across SlashDot.
New Regency is looking to assemble its own giant robot movie.
The 20th Century Fox-based production entity is close to a deal with the Mark Gordon Co. to adapt "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a live-action film.
Peep the whole article here.

I wonder if it's going to be like this Robot Chicken episode:
